Tom Jones: Not able to get a job as a director in New York, I began to write material for aspiring comedians Tom Poston and Gerry Matthews. That led to a gig at the Ruban Bleu supper club which was managed by impresario Julius Monk. Later, after Harvey joined me in the city and Julius opened his new Upstairs At The Downstairs, we began to contribute material regularly to his topical revues. For a show called “Demi-Dozen” we wrote twelve numbers, one of which was “Mr. Off-Broadway,” heard many years later with Harvey and me performing at Lyrics & Lyricists.
