HARVEY SCHMIDT

Harvey as Lyricist

In the late 1950's, before THE FANTASTICKS cemented Harvey’s partnership with Tom Jones, they were doing a lot of revue material, in which Harvey often contributed lyrics as well as music. In fact, in the first show they worked on together in college, HIPSY-BOO, they did not collaborate - Tom wrote comedy sketches, and Harvey put together a revue of popular songs from 1900 to 1950, which he music directed and for which he also wrote the music and lyrics for the title song. Tom was so impressed with Harvey's writing, arranging, and playing that the next year he asked him to write the score for TIME STAGGERS ON, their first collaboration.
